01 NPP Waveney Springs 29.08.2009

Continued from Thetford Arts Centre 04.08.2009

Saturday 29 August 2009 - This coming week sees the start of my involvement in the Waveney Springs Exhibition and Art Trail. This involves artists from both Norfolk and Suffolk within a 10 mile radius of Diss.

Terribly disappointing and frustrating loss for Arsenal 2-1 at Man Utd. Fabulous stance by Wenger in the Utd stand.

James Murdoch, chairman of News Corporation in Europe, which owns the Times and Sun, yesterday addressed the Edinburgh Television Festival. He said:
"The expansion of state-sponsored journalism is a threat to the plurality and independence of news provision..."
"It is essential for the future of independent digital journalism that a fair price can be charged for news to people who value it."
It is reassuring to know mainstream media corporates such as Sky concern themselves with independent news provision, but why do we have to pay for news?

I watched a presentation by Michael Tsarian....

It's 3.24 mins long, so unlikely too many will bother. It is a radical viewpoint compared to mainstream thinking thinking. His Carl Gustav Jung quote seems poignant:
"The gigantic catastrophes that threaten us today are not elemental happenings of a physical or biological order, but psychic events. To a quite terrifying degree we are threatened by wars and revolutions which are nothing other than psychic epidemics. At any moment several millions of human beings may be smitten with a new madness, and then we shall have another world war or devastating revolution. Instead of being at the mercy of wild beasts, earthquakes, landslides, and inundations, modern man is battered by the elemental forces of his own psyche."

Tuesday 01 September 2009 - Here comes the Autumn! Went to the Old Stables Gallery in Diss to hang my painting of 'Frank at 92' as part of the Waveney Springs exhibition. All went smoothly and there was generally a friendly and constructive vibe.
This afternoon I went to Newmarket to meet Edmond Mahony, Chairman of Tattersalls. He was welcoming and plans my return to visit. Hopefully, I will take my painting station there.

A recent article in the Washington Post discussed the fascinating Gary McKinnon extradition affair....
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/27/AR2009082703906.html
It states 'At the time, Paul J. McNulty, then U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, called it the "the biggest hack of military computers ever detected."
This is interesting because it suggests a private individual on a dial up modem in his bedroom had more success hacking US 'secret' IT system than the entire Russian intelligence services during the cold war or any other agency before that? I just do not believe it and can only conclude there is a wider issue at stake.

Wednesday 02 September 2009 - Collected a couple of paintings from Thetford's King House for photographing tomorrow. Took some snaps of the paintings on display....

Collected the Robert Clarke portrait from Coney Weston Swan....

Thursday 03 September 2009 - Ben and I took a turn sitting at The Old Stables Gallery in Diss.

Sunday 06 September 2009 - Yesterday I woke to find an e-mail stating I had been selected to be part of the One & Other Trafalgar Square 'Fourth Plinth' project:
